STARMER’S LAW

From March to July 2025, Taoreta Ltd (Taoreta 倒れた) partnered with the Youth Education Project (YEP) to deliver a powerful creative programme exploring the Labour Party’s manifesto. A topic selected by the young participants themselves, who were eager to voice their opinions on real political issues affecting their futures.

The group initially set out to produce a Chill-Hop track, but during the production phase, they recognised that the genre’s delicate and laid-back sound didn’t reflect the weight of the subject matter. Instead, they made a bold creative pivot, embracing the raw, percussive energy of Boom Bap Hip-Hop to give their message the impact it deserved.

The result was Starmer’s Law, an original track written, produced, mixed, and mastered by the learners. Each artist chose a Labour policy to focus on, crafting lyrics through a guided creative writing process that fused political insight with personal perspective. Over just two sessions, the group not only completed the track but also gained valuable hands-on experience in music production and engineering.

To round off the project, the participants visited the Houses of Parliament, where they took part in an interactive political workshop. There, they created their own parties, drafted mock policies, and gained a practical understanding of the First Past the Post voting system, turning theory into lived experience.

This collaborative project stands as a testament to the power of youth voice, creativity, and political engagement, proving that when young people are given the tools and platform to speak, they’ll do so with talent, urgency, and undeniable authenticity.
